Team Record Requirements

Team Categories

All team records must be rowed on a Concept2 Indoor Rower, with or without Slides. This equipment must sit on a level surface. Modifications to the machine that alter its performance are not allowed. Please check with Concept2 if you are unsure.

We recognize records in the following categories:

  1. Tandem (2 people)
  2. Small team (3–10 people)
  3. Large team (over 10 people)

In each of these categories the team may be men, women or mixed (at least 1/3 men and 1/3 women) and heavyweight or lightweight. In addition, mixed teams must have both the collective men and collective women each rowing at least 1/3 of the time for a time based record or 1/3 of the distance for a distance based record. Lightweight teams must consist of all lightweight members. Any records achieved by a team of both heavyweight and lightweight rowers will count as a heavyweight record. See below for weight requirements.

We recognize records for each event in ten year age categories (20–29, 30–39, 40–49, etc), as well as a Junior category for those aged 19 and under. For the Junior category, all team members must be 19 or under. For all other age categories, the age of the youngest team member determines the age category of the record. No one 19 or under will be considered for a record in an age category above their age.

For the purposes of identifying a team's nationality for British and Irish ultra-distance records, the team's members must be at least 75% British or 75% Irish, respectively.

Requirements

All other records must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Verified with a verification code obtained for the piece from the PM3, PM4, or PM5.
  • Rowed in public with witnesses present who can be reached for confirmation of the performance. “Public” is defined as a health club, fitness center, rowing club, indoor rowing race, trade show or regatta where Concept2 is present, school, university or special event in a public setting (for example, a fundraiser in a mall).
  • Recorded on video. Be sure to also include in your video a shot of the PM displaying your final results.

Weight Requirements

In accordance with regulations from on water events and indoor rowing championships around the world, lightweights must be weighed in no earlier than two hours before their row. Records from lightweights weighed prior to two hours before their row will not be recognized.

  • Lightweight Women:
  • Heavyweight Women: > 135 lbs (61.6kg)
  • Lightweight Men:
  • Heavyweight Men: > 165lbs (75kg)

High School/Club 4-Erg Million Metre Team Row

  1. All participants must be students in grades 9–12 and belong to the same club/school.
  2. Equipment: Four indoor rowers, PM3, PM4 or PM5 monitors with Venue Racing software.
  3. If your team is mixed, two of the indoor rowers must be used by girls and two of the indoor rowers by boys.
  4. There is no cap on the number of students participating.
  5. Use the Venue Racing software with PM3, PM4 or PM5 monitors and follow the instructions below.
  6. Final time will be recorded when the last of the four indoor rowers finishes.

Setting Up a 4-Erg Million Metre Team Row with ErgRace Software:

  1. Download and install the ErgRace software on a PC. Use the user manual to learn more about how to use ErgRace.
  2. Hook up the monitors from 4 RowErgs to that PC. Hookup and numbering instructions are provided in the ErgRace software and the user manual.
  3. Click Create Race, then Team Race.
  4. Set the distance to 1,000,000 metres.
  5. Change the setting from “Average” to “SUM”.
  6. Set the number of boats in the race to 4 (the same number of RowErgs you have attached). Right-click/Delete any other lanes.
  7. Name the ‘team’ if you want.
  8. Save & Load.
  9. Start the race. Please note that at the start, the PM5 monitors may show '000000' metres as it is not showing the 1 in 1000000 (it's limited to 6 digits). As soon as you start rowing, it will count down correctly.
  10. The final time will be recorded when the sum of all the RowErgs has gone the entire million metres. You will want to balance your athletes out across all 4 RowErgs, so they all finish around the same time.
  11. We recommend that you set up a similar race of shorter distance to test this out and become familiar with how it works and how you will organize your teams.
